Nearly 40% of the work on the electricity substation under construction in the Marchwar area of Rupandehi has been completed, according to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).
The NEA has stated that the power supply in the region will see a permanent improvement following the completion of the Mahadei Substation, which is being built to serve three municipalities.
NEA Engineer Jagadish Raj Baral reported that 35% of the civil structures and 40% of the electrification work for the substation have been finished. He noted that the remaining tasks are progressing rapidly, with the aim of completing the project within a year.
An agreement with the construction company was signed last February, and the project is on track to be operational within the planned timeframe. However, construction has faced delays due to challenges like soil testing, paperwork, and shortages of necessary materials. Despite these hurdles, most of the required materials have now been secured.
Planning manager Mukul Singh acknowledged that delays in project design also contributed to setbacks. Following the receipt of the finalized design, a team of 40 workers has successfully installed 850 electric poles so far.
To ensure timely completion and improve power supply, the NEA has intensified routine monitoring of the substation’s construction progress.
