The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) earned Rs 5.925 billion by exporting 633.986 million units of electricity to India between mid-September and mid-October 2026, despite flood damage disrupting production at several hydropower plants.
Export revenue increased by Rs 962 million compared with the same period last year and by Rs 832.5 million from the previous month. Nearly two-thirds of the electricity was sold under bilateral agreements with Haryana and Bihar, while the remainder was traded through the Indian Energy Exchange.
Nepal also resumed exporting 40 MW of electricity to Bangladesh on October 23 through India’s transmission network. The Central Electricity Authority of India has approved an additional 31 MW for export, bringing the total approved export capacity to approximately 1,179 MW.
