The construction of the 37 MW Upper Myagdi Hydropower Project has commenced in Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality-4 of Myagdi. Promoted by Hydro Empire Pvt Ltd, the project was officially launched by Gandaki Provincial Assembly member and former minister Resham Bahadur Jugjali, marking the start of a 4-kilometer-long tunnel connecting the Simkosh Dobhan dam to Ghimleti.
Work on the dam, tunnel, and powerhouse is underway, with a target completion date set for mid-April 2026. To facilitate construction, two bailey bridges with capacities of 50 and 30 metric tons have been installed over the Myagdi River, and the site has been connected via an access road.
In collaboration with the Upper Myagdi-1 and Myagdi Khola Hydropower Projects, an approximately 21-kilometer-long access road has been constructed from Bharwang in Malika Rural Municipality-7 to near Bagar village, passing through Kalleni, Chhahari, Khara, Khamla, and Naura.
The project is estimated to cost Rs 6.699 billion, with Rs 5.348 billion in investment from Siddhartha Bank, Nepal SBI Bank, Citizens Bank, Everest Bank, and Nabil Bank, alongside contributions from the promoter and public shares. It is being financed with 70 percent debt and 30 percent equity investment. Upon completion, the project is expected to generate 215.714 gigawatt-hours of electricity.
Additionally, the Nepal Electricity Authority is constructing a 132 kV capacity substation in Malika Rural Municipality-7, Dadakhet. The generated electricity will be connected to the central grid via a 132 kV single-circuit transmission line extending 9.2 kilometers from the power plant to the Dadakhet substation.
