Nepal has imported petroleum products worth Rs 104.76 billion through the Birgunj border in the first seven months of the current fiscal year 2024/25. The imported products include diesel, petrol, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), aviation turbine fuel (ATF), and kerosene.
According to the Birgunj Customs Office, petroleum imports have increased by Rs 840 million compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year.
Amit Tiwari, information officer at the Birgunj Customs Office, stated that both petroleum imports and revenue collection have risen in the past few months. He attributed the increase in imports to the start of the infrastructure construction season.
During the same period in the last fiscal year 2023/24, Nepal imported petroleum products worth Rs 103.92 billion. The customs office reported that it has collected Rs 43.11 billion in revenue from petroleum imports in the first seven months of the current fiscal year.
