A 24.92-megawatt semi-reservoir-type hydropower project is slated for development on the Induwa Khola in Makalu Rural Municipality-5 of Sankhuwasabha district. The project will be undertaken by Vision Tesla Power Company, which has committed to completing construction within three years of initiation.
As part of the preliminary procedures, the company has called on local residents to provide feedback regarding the possible positive and negative impacts of the project. Locals have been given a 35-day window to submit their comments and concerns.
The project includes the construction of an 18-meter-long dam on the Induwa Khola at an elevation of 1,372 meters above sea level. A 60-meter-long and 6.5-meter-wide settling basin will be built on the river’s left bank to manage sedimentation. On the right side of the basin, a peaking pond with a storage capacity of 100,291 cubic meters and a maximum depth of 7 meters will be constructed to regulate water flow.
In addition to the Induwa Khola, the project will also tap into water resources from the Simli Khola and Chimchime Khola to optimize power generation.
The electricity produced will be transmitted through a 9-kilometer-long, 132 kV single-circuit transmission line to the switchyard of the nearby Isuwa Khola Cascade Hydropower Project. From there, it will be connected to the national grid via the Nepal Electricity Authority’s Shitalpati substation.
This project represents a significant step forward in harnessing renewable energy in Nepal’s eastern hills, while also aiming to promote local development and energy security.
