Kathmandu, February 3 : After a month of applying for Air Operator’s Certificate to conduct air flights to Japan, Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) has received the same from the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN).
With such go-ahead signal from the authority, the corporation is planning to fly wide-body aircraft to Japan from the upcoming month of February, according to media reports.
It is learnt that all the required documents have already been sent to the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB) through the NAC country manager based in Japan
After receiving the approval from the JCAB, the NAC will initiate marketing and ticketing processes required to start commercial air flights to Japan. It has already received slot at Osaka International Airport for three flights a week.
According to the officials of the corporation, the proposed direct air flights between Nepal and Japan will not only help boost its revenue volume but also play a vital role in bringing more Japanese tourists to Nepal.
Apart from Japan, the NAC is currently preparing to operate scheduled flights to China, Saudi Arabia, and South Korea.

The corporation conducts international flights to Delhi, Doha, Dubai, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Mumbai, and Bangalore and domestic flights to 25 districts across the country. Even though the NAC’s fleet comprises 14 aircraft, only eight of them are in operation. The aircraft currently operating include one Boeing 757-200, one Xian MA 60, two Harbin Y12E, two Airbus A320-200, and two Airbus A330-200. Similarly, two Y12E, one MA60 and three Twin Otters remain grounded.
