Two Firms Penalized as Department Intensifies Market Monitoring in Kathmandu

The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection, which has been intensifying market monitoring and inspection, carried out inspections of 14 industries and firms in different parts of Kathmandu on Sunday. According to a press release issued by the department, two of them have been brought under punitive action.

The department fined Dahal Cow Farm, located in Kageshwari Manohara–9, Mahanatar, Rs 5,000. The action was taken under Section 15 and Section 38 (d) of the Consumer Protection Act, 2018, in accordance with Section 39 (1) (a) of the same Act.

Similarly, DNS Wood and Furniture Industry, located in Kageshwari Manohara–9, Gothatar, has been instructed to appear at the department within three days along with business-related documents. The department has directed the remaining 12 industries or firms to make immediate improvements, providing them with necessary suggestions and instructions.

The department stated that, except on public holidays, it has been conducting market monitoring and inspections nationwide in coordination with local administrations. It clarified that these efforts aim to maintain cleanliness in the market, ensure the issuance of bills and invoices, and curb black marketing.

According to the department’s latest details, inspections were carried out at 11 industries and firms on Mangsir 26. On Mangsir 25, 20 industries or firms were monitored, during which Dawa Shoes and Fashion Center was fined Rs 50,000.

Likewise, on Mangsir 24, inspections were conducted at 13 firms, and four of them were fined Rs 50,000. On Mangsir 23, 15 firms were monitored, while on Mangsir 22, inspections at 15 firms resulted in fines of Rs 50,000 imposed on three firms.
