The economic census will officially begin nationwide from Baisakh 2 (mid-April). According to the schedule, on-site data collection will be completed within the first week of Asar (late June). Approximately 5,000 personnel have been mobilized for the census.

Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has urged all industries, business establishments, entrepreneurs, and concerned stakeholders to actively participate in the second economic census. He emphasized the importance of contributing to this crucial task of collecting data related to the country’s overall industrial and economic sectors.

The census will collect basic information across 18 sectors of the economy. Its objective is to gather data on the number, type, investment, employment, production, and service delivery of industries, businesses, service sectors, cooperatives, private sectors, and public institutions.

Data will be collected from both registered and unregistered establishments across the country, including large and small businesses, trade enterprises, and those providing significant employment or self-employment opportunities. It will also include industries, factories, trade and business entities, non-governmental organizations, government institutions, as well as public and private schools and hospitals.

The preparatory phase of the economic census was completed by the end of Falgun (mid-March). Additionally, at the beginning of Chaitra (mid-March), 84 offices were established—covering all 77 districts along with 7 additional offices. These offices will remain operational until the end of Asar (late June).

The National Statistics Office has requested all stakeholders to provide accurate and complete information to ensure the success of the campaign. It has clarified that the economic census is a national initiative and requires active participation from everyone.

Previously, the national economic census was conducted in 2075 BS (2018/19), which reported a total of 923,356 establishments and businesses operating across the country.
