The government is preparing to conduct on-site inspections of local governments in Madhesh Province that have failed to announce their annual budgets within the stipulated deadline.
According to the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration, a joint team comprising representatives from the ministry, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the National Vigilance Center and the Municipal Association of Nepal will visit the concerned local bodies.
The Constitution requires local governments to present their annual budgets by Asar 10 (around June 24). However, several local governments have failed to meet the deadline for the current fiscal year.
A total of 13 local governments nationwide have yet to announce their budgets, including 10 local governments from Madhesh Province.
The government plans to use the on-site visits to identify the reasons behind the delays and provide necessary coordination and facilitation to help the affected local governments complete their budgetary processes.
