The Department of Passports has significantly increased its capacity to produce electronic passports (e-passports) to meet growing demand. On August 10 (Shrawan 25), the department successfully printed 5,878 e-passports in a single day, compared to its previous daily capacity of around 1,500.
The department said it has been continuously improving its production capacity and service system to provide passports to Nepali citizens in a faster, safer and more efficient manner. Further capacity expansion is also underway to ensure timely service amid rising demand.
E-passport services are now available through all 77 District Administration Offices, as well as various Area Administration Offices. Nepali citizens living abroad can also obtain e-passports through Nepali diplomatic missions.
The department is coordinating with district and area administration offices and Nepali missions abroad to manage increasing service pressure. It is also working to resolve technical problems affecting the e-passport system and aims to stabilize the system within three months.
The department said its priority is to make e-passport services more accessible, reliable, secure and efficient, while reducing difficulties faced by applicants.
