May 18: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has announced the inauguration of the ‘Lumbini Visit Year- 2076 BS’ amidst a special ceremony held today in Lumbini, commemorating the Buddha Purnima.
With the inauguration of the special year-long celebrations, the Head-of-the-State invited entire Buddhist followers across the world to Lumbini where the Buddha was born. The President, on the occasion, stated that the development of Lumbini would play a positive role to lead the State 5 towards prosperity. As the President stressed, it is the prime need of the hour to effectively implement the Lumbini Master Plan to develop the site as the centre for world peace.
Urging the stakeholders concerned to move ahead seeking support and cooperation of locals, the President drew the attention of the Lumbini Development Trust towards the implementation of the Plan soon. She presented the idea of creating an internal touristic circuit by connecting the Buddha’s place and a greater touristic circuit by connecting it to other countries and drew the government’s attention towards that end.
The President thanked the government for its initiations to build an atmosphere for the celebration of Buddha Purnima as the Baisakh Diwas across the world. She was of the view of promoting the Lumbini as an educational centre of world standard and maintaining peace and stability in the Lumbini area. RSS
