The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has expressed interest in supporting the modernization and digital transformation of Nepal’s power infrastructure, including the country’s transmission and distribution networks.
An AIIB delegation led by Director General Rajat Misra held discussions with Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha on Thursday. The talks focused on strengthening Nepal’s energy sector, disaster preparedness and early warning systems.
AIIB representatives expressed readiness to support the integrated upgrading of Nepal’s transmission and distribution systems, along with post-disaster recovery and reconstruction efforts.
The bank also indicated its willingness to provide technical assistance for disaster preparedness and early warning systems, particularly by drawing lessons from the recent Bhote Koshi floods.
The proposed cooperation is expected to contribute to improving the reliability and resilience of Nepal’s power infrastructure while advancing its digital transformation.
The discussions also covered broader cooperation in the energy sector and measures to strengthen Nepal’s capacity to respond to natural disasters and protect critical infrastructure.
