The move follows growing concerns that residents in border areas frequently cross into Indian markets to purchase food, clothing and other household goods, affecting local businesses and reducing national revenue.

At key border points such as Mechinagar, Bhadrapur, Gaurigunj and Kachankawal, APF personnel have begun strictly enforcing customs rules. Individuals bringing in goods worth more than Rs 100 from India are now required to pay customs duty.

According to Madan Rasaili, information officer at APF Nepal No. 2 Battalion Headquarters in Jhapa, legal action will be taken against those who fail to comply with the requirement.

He added that awareness campaigns have also been launched in border communities to help reduce revenue leakage, following directives from the Ministry of Home Affairs Nepal.

Authorities said similar surveillance measures have been strengthened at customs points across the country to curb illegal imports and ensure better revenue collection.
