Chief Administrative Officer Basanta Adhikari said that the metropolis submitted the report to the ministry on Thursday. According to him, no arable land was found in the metropolis, according to the guidelines made by the government to recommend arable land. “All the land in the city is non-agricultural,” said the official.

After the report of the metropolis, the plotting of land will be opened in the city. The metropolis had previously formed a Land Use Council to classify the land within its jurisdiction. On the recommendation of the Land Use Council, the metropolis has submitted a report to the ministry that there is no arable land.

In the land use regulation 2079 BS, there is a provision that the chairman of the land use council shall be the mayor of the metropolis. The chief administrative officer of the metropolis has been assigned the responsibility of member secretary of the council.

According to the member-secretary and chief administrative officer of the council, all 32 wards within the metropolis had submitted reports that there was no arable land in their wards. The report was submitted to the land use implementation committee formed by the metropolis. The implementation committee submitted the report to the Land Use Council.

The council’s meeting held on Wednesday approved the recommendations of the implementation committee. Previously, a separate committee was formed to recommend land classification in all 32 wards on October 19. Ward members were given the responsibility of member secretaries in the committees chaired by the ward chairpersons.
