Exports through this border point have more than doubled compared to the same period last fiscal year. In the first seven months of the previous fiscal year, traders shipped goods worth Rs 17.08 billion to foreign countries via this checkpoint.

Among the 28 customs checkpoints across the country, Birgunj accounted for 31.72 percent of total exports. Amit Tiwari, the information officer at Birgunj Customs Office, attributed the rise in exports to increased shipments of refined sunflower and soybean oil. He stated, “Compared to last fiscal year, exports have been increasing at an encouraging rate this year.”

In the first seven months of the current fiscal year, traders exported refined soybean oil worth Rs 19.36 billion and refined sunflower oil worth Rs 4.63 billion through the Birgunj border.

They also shipped fruit juice worth Rs 3.96 billion and iron and iron-based products worth Rs 3.12 billion, according to the Birgunj Customs Office.

Other major exports included synthetic yarn worth Rs 1.60 billion, various types of fabric worth Rs 1.47 billion, and raw materials for animal feed such as husk and bran, worth Rs 1.22 billion.
