Chief District Officer of Banke Shiva Ram Gelal said that the decision to fully open the checkpoint followed the government decision to open border with India faced restrictions owing to COVID-19.
Health protocols against COVID-19 are made to be followed. Prior to this, vehicles from both countries mainly private ones were prohibited for cross-border movements bearing in mind the COVID-19 infections.
Pedestrians and containers carrying essential goods including foodstuffs were allowed to cross the borders. Banke Police Spokesperson Deputy Superintendent of Police, Madhusudan Neupane, said the India border security force (Seema Suraksha Bal) informed that they had been instructed by the upper level to allow the cross-border movement of the private vehicles, too.
Earlier, the Council of Ministers had decided to allow private vehicles with Indian number plates to enter the country with the adoption of all required health protocols.
