Courage and patience needs for prosperity: PM Oli

Kathmandu, April 23: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that courage and patience are necessary to make the country prosperous. Addressing the Pasang Foundation Day organized on the 26th anniversary of Pasang Lhamu Sherpa’s successful ascent of Sagarmatha (Mount Everest) here today, Prime Minister Oli said that Pasang’s inspiration and self-confidence could be helpful in prospering the country.

“We are now engaged in a campaign of nation-building. Self-confidence along with courage and patience is necessary at this point of time. We can make Nepal prosperous with self-confidence and courage of all,” he said “Pasang Lhamu is the symbol of inspiration and courage. We should be inspired by her. Nothing is impossible. We can turn the impossible thing into possible. We can develop the country.” Stating that there are a long string of debates regarding the exact height of Mt Everest, he said its authentic height would come by soon as efforts were on to re-measure it.

PM Oli also expressed his commitment that the government would provide the necessary support for the construction of Pasang Lhamu monument to respect and honor her contribution. Prime Minister Oli also lauded the contribution of Foundation to the development and promotion of the tourism sector. Expressing sorrow over the demise of a member of the Foundation, tourism entrepreneur Ang Tshering Sherpa, the then Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Rabindra Adhikari among others, he committed that the government and Foundation together would do possible supports to the bereaved families.

On the occasion, toppers at Pasang Lhamu Sherpa Memorial College were honored. President of the Foundation, Kripashur Sherpa stressed the need for the concerned authorities to focus on constructing a monument of late Pasang Lhamu in recognization of her contribution to the country’s tourism. Pasang Lhamu, who was the first Nepali woman to reach atop Mt Everest, successfully ascended the highest peak of the world on April 22, 1993, at the cost of her life. She died in course of descending.
