The state-owned Dairy Development Corporation (DDC) has paid Rs 120 million to dairy farmers as part of its ongoing effort to clear long-pending payments.
According to the DDC, the Corporation has settled Rs 120 million of the approximately Rs 580 million it owed dairy farmers over the past four months.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Forest and Environment stated that the DDC has been disbursing around Rs 10 million daily to farmers after implementing reform measures aimed at improving the Corporation’s financial and operational condition.
Despite the recent payments, the DDC still owes nearly Rs 460 million to dairy farmers.
The payment crisis in the dairy sector remains severe, as private dairy industries across the country are also reported to owe farmers nearly Rs 3 billion.
