The import of four-wheeled vehicles through the Birgunj customs office has significantly decreased in the first five months of the current fiscal year. According to the Birgunj Customs Office, 482 jeeps, cars, and vans, valued at Rs 920.336 million, were imported during this period.
This represents a 38.13% drop in the number of vehicles imported compared to the same period last year, with revenue falling by 16.43%. In the first five months of the previous fiscal year, 779 vehicles worth Rs 1.2 billion were imported, generating Rs 2.8 billion in revenue.
The data also shows a decline in the import of both fuel-powered and electric vehicles. In the current fiscal year, 97 electric vehicles (jeeps, cars, and vans) worth Rs 147.8 million were imported through Birgunj, marking a 59.07% decrease in the number of electric vehicles and a 58.63% drop in revenue compared to the same period last year, when 237 electric vehicles worth Rs 465.8 million were imported, generating Rs 203.5 million in revenue.
