Jagannath Niraula, the spokesperson for CAAN, stated that the purpose of this digital system is to provide timely weather information to flights departing from Nepalgunj to various destinations. With this system, weather updates from 20 locations including Dhangadhi, Mahendranagar, Surkhet, Shantipur, Tikapur, Salle, and Lamahi can be easily obtained.

“In the past, there was a mechanism to acquire in-route weather information. However, through this pilot project’s display, the general public will have access to weather updates in a more effective manner,” Spokesperson Niraula explained. “Now, providing weather information before flights to Surkhet, Jumla, Dolpa, and other destinations will be simpler.”

To enhance the capacity of the Nepalgunj Airport, the Karnali region’s primary hub, CAAN is planning to extend the runway by an additional 2,500 meters. The expansion project, which includes a terminal building for passenger facilities, is estimated to cost approximately three billion rupees. Sharma & Company has been awarded the contract for this project.

Presently, various airlines operate regular flights at this airport utilizing ATR-72 series aircraft. The airport at present has a 1,500 meter long runway.
