Kathmandu, April 27: A two-day domestic tourism fair kicked off at Bhrikutimandap in Kathmandu with an objective to promote domestic tourism. The fair, organized by Gantabya Nepal Group, was inaugurated by former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai on April 26, Friday.
On the occasion, former PM Bhattarai said that the private sector should work in collaboration with the government for the development and economic prosperity of the country, arguing that development and prosperity were not possible with the sole effort of the government. Similarly, Nepal Communist Party Chief Whip Dev Prasad Gurung opined that the tourism sector should be developed as an industry.
He said, “It is imperative to develop and promote the tourism sector to materialize the government motto of ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepal’.” Likewise, Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Mohan Krishna Sapkota shared that the government had been working actively to make Visit Nepal 2020 a success. According to him, various committees were formed to carry out tourism-related activities and oversee them.
He also informed that the government was committed to promoting rural tourism. The government aims to attract as many as two million foreign tourists to Nepal in 2020. There are a total of 111 commercial and food stalls in the fair where representatives from 75 districts in the country have participated, according to the Gantabya Group President Shiva Adhikari. RSS
