Goods valued at Rs. 29.27 billion were exported to various countries through the Birgunj Customs Office during the first six months of the current fiscal year 2024/25.
According to the customs office, exports surged by 100%, increasing by Rs. 14.71 billion compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year. During the first half of fiscal year 2023/24, Nepal exported goods worth Rs. 14.56 billion. This significant growth is attributed to the rising export of processed soybean and sunflower oil to neighboring India, said Amit Tiwari, Information Officer at the Birgunj Customs Office.
The office collected Rs. 176.60 million in revenue from exports during the review period, compared to Rs. 103.81 million collected during the same period of the previous fiscal year.
Imports Also on the Rise
Meanwhile, goods and merchandise worth Rs. 277.15 million were imported through the Birgunj border in the first six months of the current fiscal year. This represents a 6.45% increase compared to the Rs. 260 million worth of goods imported during the same period last fiscal year.
The increased export figures highlight the growing demand for Nepal’s processed products, particularly in India, while the rise in imports reflects the ongoing demand for foreign goods in the domestic market.
