Stating that the customs officials have an important role to play in increasing the revenue collection, Minister Poudel also directed them to fulfill this role effectively.

Pledging to resolve the burning issues surrounding the customs sector, the Minister shared that efforts are underway to construct an Integrated Check Post (ICP). An agreement to this was made with the Indian government some 15 years ago but due to lack of interest on the part of the Indian side, the construction process has been stagnant.

Furthermore, he assured that the Belhiya-Butwal Business Corridor would be constructed very soon. Stating that he had been in talks with the concerned authorities regarding the Corridor, the Minister vowed that the inauguration of the Corridor would be held very soon. On the occasion, chief of the Bhairahawa Customs Office Maniram Poudel urged for positive intervention from the Minister’s side to accelerate the construction of the ICP. He also brought to fore the parking issues in the Custom Office and its premises and the traffic jam and subsequent consequences in lack of wide parking areas. RSS
