Ghalegaun lies in the lap of Lamjung Mountain and Annapurna Mountain in the northern part of Lamjung. The festival has started with a slogan ‘Preservation and promotion of indigenous folk culture; a base for the development of rural tourism’.

Among the key attractions of the Ghalegaun festival are sigh-seeing of the panoramic view, exhibition of mythological handicraft products, an exhibition of local agro product, observation of sunshine and sunset.

“We want to execute the national campaign of ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali’ by strengthening the rural economy through the promotion of rural tourism”, Gurung added. He further said they have been engaged in the campaign of making publicity of entire rural municipality being not limited to Ghalegaun.

It may be noted that the foreign minister level SAARC meeting had declared Ghalegaun as a model rural tourism village of the SAARC region. The joint government formed after the success of the People’s Movement in 2006. The effort for the promotion of rural tourism since 1999 now has pushed an agenda of making it the first smart city of Nepal. RSS
