Kathmandu, July 31: The Inland Revenue Office, Bharatpur has issued an order to the Gorkha Brewery to determine its final excise duty. The Office has asked the Brewery to clear the taxes due to be paid for the last two fiscal years that stands at over Rs 870 million within seven days.
Office Chief Shubha Prasad Rijal said that his office sent a letter to Gorkha Brewery on July 28 drawing the Brewery’s attention to pay the tax with fine and penalty. Rijal informed that the letter was received by the representative of the taxpayer party too.
The tax collection from Brewery had gained impetus after the single bench of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JBR on July 24 had overruled the interim order passed by the single and division benches of Pokhara High Court that stayed the Bharatpur Inland Revenue Office’s decision to impose excise duty on the Brewery.
The Brewery has been ordered to pay Rs 532 million 157 thousand 615 and Rs 339 million 339 thousand 963 in excise duty, penalty and late fine for the fiscal year 2016/17 and fiscal year 2017/18 respectively, Rijal said.
The Gorkha Brewery has been in operation at Mukundapur in Nawalparasi since 1999. It had paid Rs 110 billion as excise tax in the last fiscal year. The Brewery has been brewing beers like Gorkha, Carlsberg, Tuborg, and Apple Cider. RSS
