Lawmakers speaking in the ‘special hour’ of the National Assembly, the Upper House of the Federal Parliament, today, called attention of the government towards the problem faced by farmers for lack of fertilizers.

Anita Devkota expressed her objection over what she called irresponsible spending of budget towards the end of the fiscal year. She demanded that this practice should be stopped and steps taken so that it will not repeat in the next fiscal year.

Devkota also called on the government to immediately manage fertilizer to the farmers. Bhairab Sundar Shrestha also strongly called on the government to manage fertilizers while Gopi Bahadur Sarki Acchami drew its attention to the damage caused by incessant rain and floods in various places of Morang district recently.

Achhami suggested bringing a ‘River Act’ to minimize the disasters caused by rivers. He also demanded that the government should bring the Civil Service Act at the earliest. Udaya Bahadur Bohara stressed on the need for the federal government to empower the province and local level by delegating rights for strengthening the federalism.

He called on the government to resolve the growing problems as killings, violence, inflation and unemployment. Shekhar Kumar Singh also expressed ire over farmers not getting fertilizer in the rice planting season and demanded that the government resolve this problem at the earliest. He also protested the decrease in the MBBS quotas.

Singh demanded to bring the Citizenship Act at the earliest possible. Prakash Pantha drew the attention of the government regarding reforms in the education standard of community colleges and pointed out the need of employment-oriented education in the country.

Khimlal Devkota stressed on the need of stopping the encroachment upon the Phewa Lake in Kaski while Bhuwan Bahadur Sunar called for providing land to the landless squatters.
