The government has appointed a three-member committee, led by Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel, to recommend three candidates for the position of governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB). The committee includes former NRB Governor Bijaya Nath Bhattarai and former Vice-Chairperson of the National Planning Commission Bishwo Nath Poudel.
One of the nominees will be appointed as the next governor, succeeding Maha Prasad Adhikari, who is set to retire on April 6. Adhikari assumed office on April 6, 2020, during the tenure of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Finance Minister Yuba Raj Khatiwada.
Among the three nominees, one will be from the two current NRB deputy governors—Neelam Dhungana Timsina and Bam Bahadur Mishra—both of whom also serve on the NRB Board of Directors. The other two nominees are expected to be recognized experts in banking, management, corporate law, finance, and the broader economic sector of Nepal.
