The government has fixed the maximum retail price (MRP) for processed drinking water sold in bottles and jars.
According to the Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection, the price of a 1-liter bottle of water has been set at Rs 16 and a 20-liter jar at Rs 47 within the Kathmandu Valley. Outside the valley, the prices have been set at Rs 20 for a 1-liter bottle and Rs 60 for a 20-liter jar.
The government has warned that sellers charging more than the fixed prices will face legal action under the Consumer Protection Act 2018 Nepal and its related regulations of 2019. Consumers can report such violations to the concerned offices or local administration if necessary.
The department has also urged consumers to remain vigilant and ensure that their rights are protected.
