The Department of Transport Management has suspended the new registration of all public transport vehicles across the country.
According to the department, the decision was taken in view of increasing traffic congestion, rising pollution, and excessive pressure on roads nationwide. With this directive, no new public transport vehicles will be registered anywhere in Nepal until further notice.
The department stated that the suspension will remain in effect until another official notice is issued. On Jestha 7, the department circulated the directive to the concerned ministries of all seven provinces as well as local governments across the country.
Under the new directive, not only fuel-powered public vehicles but also electric public transport vehicles will be barred from new registration. The department said the decision was made after considering the country’s road capacity, fuel and pollution concerns, passenger capacity, and investment risks.
The Department of Transport Management stated that the decision was implemented by exercising the authority granted under Section 24, Sub-section (3) of the Vehicle and Transport Management Act, 2049 BS.
