June 6 : The government has begun the land acquisition process for the construction of the proposed East-West electronic railway. Such process was started at different places of Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari districts along the Kakadvitta-Inaruwa Road section. A total of 673 bigha of lands would be brought under the proposed project in the first phase in these districts.
The related district administration offices have already asked the land owners to come for compensation along with necessary documents.
The 945.244 km-long railway will stretch from Jhapa in the east to Kanchanpur in the west. To be constructed under the private/public partnership, its total estimated cost is US $ 3 billion.
