Hubie Halloween is a 2020 American horror comedy film directed by Steven Brill and written by Adam Sandler and Tim Herlihy. It stars Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Julie Bowen, Maya Rudolph, and Ray Liotta, in the lead roles.
A killer is roaming around Salem (a city in Massachusetts) during one Halloween night and kidnapping the locals. Hubie Dubois (Adam Sandler) is a delicatessen worker in Salem. Heis ridiculed by the entire city, kids and adults alike, for being weird and timorous. He is still living with his mother and has no other person to call family.Hubie completely devotes his time on the Halloween night monitoring the city, as the official Halloween Helper. However, this time somethingout of the ordinary happens and Hubie is even willing to risk his life to save his precious city.
The film is an average watch; it may attract kids because of its theme. Adam has tried a different role by delivering a different voice in which he succeeds for few scenes. Although it is a comedy, the suspense sequences is also written and executed brilliantly. In fact I couldn’t predict the real culprit behind the kidnapping. The horror element is also spectacular and it is hair rising. The performances of other stars are also impressive especially Kevin James as Steve Downey. Steve Buscemi has also given a significant performance. The direction and execution is also satisfactory and the dialogues are somehow ok. The camera work is eye stealing and all the credit goes to the cinematographer. Art direction is also praiseworthy and it shined in the house of a mad guy (neighbor of Hubie). At last I would like to say that the film is an average watch or one time watch for those who want to spend some time watching something. Though it got backlash from the critics but it received mixed reactions from the audience and got 5.2 out of 10 rating on IMDB. It was released on October 7, 2020 on Netflix and dedicated to the memory of actor Cameron Boyce
