The immigration office has been established near no men’s land (Dasgaja) of Korala border at Lomanthang Rural Municipality of Upper Mustang, which is connected to the border with China.

It is expected that after the immigration office comes into operation, it will be easier for traffic and business transactions at the checkpoint.

Chief District Officer of Mustang Bishnu Prasad Bhusal said there is a schedule to inaugurate the office by Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak amidst a function on Wednesday.

He said that after the establishment of the immigration office, it will be easier to cross the border with a visa.

He said, “Nowadays, only the people of Mustang travel with the border entry permit. After the immigration office comes into operation, all Nepalis will be able to cross the border with a visa. Chinese tourists will also be able to come to Mustang through this border with a visa.”

He said that all the preparations for the operation of the immigration office have been completed.

Earlier, the people’s representatives of Mustang had been demanding for the establishment of an immigration office from Nepal government.

According to him, central electrification system has been connected in the building where the immigration and security posts are located.

The mobile phones with high-speed internet of Nepal Telecom have been brought into operation, he added. He said that preparations are being made to provide integrated services from Korala border by building the necessary infrastructure.

CDO Bhusal said that there was a planned to shift Nechung Customs Office near the immigration office. The checkpoint, which was closed for four years due to COVID-19 pandemic, was operational from last year.

A temporary structure has been constructed on the Nepal side of the Korala border, which is the border pillar number 24 between Nepal and China, and the border has been brought into operation.
