Insurance claims worth Rs 12.87 billion have been filed for damages caused by floods and landslides triggered by incessant rainfall on September 26, 2024, according to the Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA). A total of 3,686 claims have been submitted, of which 1,809 have been settled, resulting in payments amounting to Rs 1.79 billion.
Under property insurance, 1,774 claims have been filed, amounting to Rs 9.22 billion. Engineering and contractor insurance has seen 324 claims filed, totaling Rs 2.84 billion. In motor insurance, 954 claims have been submitted, seeking Rs 415.34 million in total, with 393 of these claims settled for Rs 289.9 million. Marine insurance has recorded 23 claims, amounting to Rs 44.97 million, while livestock insurance has seen 60 claims, requesting Rs 38.3 million. For crop insurance, 137 claims have been filed, requesting Rs 10.59 million, and miscellaneous insurance has recorded 21 claims, totaling Rs 7.6 million.
Regionally, Koshi Province has seen 267 claims filed, with 158 of them settled. Madhesh Province has recorded 108 claims, but only 37 have been resolved. Bagmati Province, the most affected area, has seen 3,213 claims filed, with payments settled for 1,585 of them. In Gandaki Province, 47 claims have been submitted, with payments made for 15. Karnali Province has recorded 8 claims, with 4 settled, while Sudurpaschim Province has seen 6 claims filed, with 3 resolved.
The NIA continues to process claims to provide relief to those impacted by the disaster.
