Independent Power Producers Association, Nepal (IPPAN), an umbrella organization of private developers and owners of power producers of Nepal, has elected all office-bearers unopposed, including Ganesh Karki as President and Mohan Dangi as Senior Vice President.
Karki was elected as the president of IPPAN after another candidate for the presidency, Kiran Malla, was rejected even though the voting was scheduled for June 15.
Similarly, Mohan Kumar Dangi was elected as senior vice president. Surya Prasad Adhikari had also filed his nomination for the post of senior vice president. Dangi was elected as the senior vice president after the election committee rejected Adhikari’s candidacy saying that he was not qualified.
Likewise, five vice-presidents have also been elected unopposed. Although seven candidates filed nominations for the post of five vice-presidents, the election committee rejected the nominations of the two on the ground of being disqualified, and the vice-presidents were also elected unopposed.
The elected vice presidents are Ashish Garg, Bharat Kumar Khatri, Uttam Blon Lama, Ram Prasad Acharya, and Ananda Chaudhary. The election committee said that the candidates for the vice president, Birendra Malla and Dipendra Bam, are not qualified.
Similarly, Balaram Khatiwada was elected as the General Secretary unopposed. Two candidates filed nominations for the position of General Secretary. Binod Devkota had also registered nomination for the post of General Secretary. Prakash Chandra Dulal has already been elected as Deputy General Secretary unopposed since he was a lone contender for the post.
There were six nominations for five secretaries and one person was elected unopposed.
Bharat Prasad Nepal, Bharat Kumar Khadka, Kabita Pokharel, Bikram Bista and Him Prasad Pathak have been elected as secretaries. The election committee said that Narayan Kandel, who had filed nomination for the post of secretary, was not qualified.
Similarly, Narendra Ballabh Panta has been elected for the post of Treasurer. Among the three women members, Isha Shrestha, Susan Karmacharya and Suman Joshi have been elected unopposed.
Fourteen candidates are in the fray for the post of members under open category.
IPPAN’s 21st annual general meeting and new executive committee election will be held on June 15 at Hyatt Hotel.
The general meeting of the association will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
