Kathmandu, August 19 : Local authorities have decided to impose lockdown in the Kathmandu valley for a week starting midnight Wednesday in order to contain the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
A meeting of security agencies and Chief District Officers of the three districts of the valley-Kathmandu, Lalitur and Bhaktapur- on Tuesday (Aug 18) made such a decision. With this, the movement of people and vehicles except those belonging to essential services will be strictly prohibited.
Of late, there has been an alarming rise in the valley and other parts of the country. The valley reported as many as 205 new cases of the COVID-19- the highest single-day rise so far- on Tuesday alone. Similarly, the total number of such cases yesterday across the country was 1,016- the biggest daily rise so far.
