During a discussion with the Foreign Employment Board on Monday, Minister Aryal emphasized the need for the government to stay informed about the conditions of workers engaged in foreign employment. He requested detailed information on why workers are detained and suggested solutions to address these issues.

According to a press release issued by the ministry, Minister Aryal directed the Foreign Employment Board to gather data on cases where workers have encountered difficulties or been detained in various destination countries. He also emphasized the importance of documenting cases of workers receiving medical treatment or those who have passed away abroad, along with outlining plans for rescue and problem resolution.

The ministry aims to facilitate the transfer of Nepali workers in foreign hospitals to receive treatment in Nepal in collaboration with local medical facilities. Minister Aryal stated, “We will provide necessary assistance to workers in detention for legal aid.”

Similarly, he highlighted plans to expedite the repatriation of deceased workers back to Nepal.

Minister Aryal also urged the Board to take the lead in providing insurance coverage for workers who meet with accidents while working abroad. He noted that while foreign countries offer insurance to migrant workers, not all Nepali workers may be aware of this benefit, leading to many missing out on compensation.

As a result, Minister Aryal instructed the Board to proactively educate Nepali workers about insurance coverage and ensure that they receive their entitled benefits. During the meeting, Minister Aryal discussed labor issues with labor assistants and counselors from various labor destination countries, including Malaysia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Oman, South Korea, and Kuwait.

Labor Secretary Kewal Prasad Bhandari also stressed the need for the Foreign Employment Board to prioritize the welfare of workers. “There are concerns that the Board lacks sensitivity towards workers’ issues. Hence, it is crucial for you to fulfill your responsibilities diligently,” he said.
