Large-scale cardamom farming to be done in 22 wards of Bhojpur

Bhojpur, October 8 : The meeting of stakeholders convened in Bhojpur district to determine the Large Cardamom Zone has decided to do its farming in 22 wards across four local units in the district.
Farming of cardamom, a high value cash crop, on large-scale has been done in more than three dozens of districts in the country, according to a study by ICIMOD.
The study shows that Taplejung, Panchthar, Ilam and Sankhuwasabha had been the major cardamom producing districts producing over 80 per cent of the total national product.
The meeting called by the Prime Minister Agriculture Modernization Project Management Unit decided at Khumaltar in Lalitpur to implement the Large Cardamom Zone Programme in all 22 wards in the district.
Commercial farming of cardamom would be practiced in Bhojpur Municipality’s Helaucha of ward no 1 and 2, Gupteshwor of ward no 3, Siddeshwor of ward no 4, Bokhim and Aath Pokhare of ward no 5, Kafle of war dno 9, Bhaisipankha of ward no 10 and Amtekh 11 of ward no 11.
Similarly, the programme would be implemented at Kimalung of Shadananda Municipality in ward no 9, Sang Pang of ward no 10, Boyam of ward no 13 in the district.
Likewise, cardamom would be produced in all wards of Temke Maiyung Rural municipality’s ward no 6, Okhe of Ram Prasad Rai rural municipality’s ward no 1 and Champe of Arun Rural Municipality ward no 1 in the district, according to senior agricultural engineer Saroj Adhikari. RSS
