May 6 : A meeting of the Council of Ministers has today decided to extend the term of the ongoing nationwide lockdown till May 18.
The lockdown, which was first enforced on March 24 to contain the spread of COVID-19, was maturing on Thursday midnight, May 7.
Similarly, the meeting also decided to suspend international flights and cross-border movement with the neighboring countries India and China till May 31.
On Tuesday, a meeting of the High-Level Coordination Committee for the Prevention and Control of COVID-19, held under Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s chairmanship, had concluded that measures taken to control the spread of coronavirus thus far had been effective.
However, it may be noted thousands of people continue to enter the Kathmandu Valley in particular from various parts of the country in a clear violation of the lockdown.
