Locusts to be used to feed chicken, fish

Dhangadhi, June 29 : With the incidents of locust swarms’ entering in various places in the country, the Sudur Paschim State government has planned to use the insects to feed chicken and fish. The locusts reportedly entered into the country on Saturday are posing high threat to the food crops.

The Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives Ministry of the State has shared that the insects could be used as the possible feed for chickens and fish after collecting them in farmlands. Spokesperson at the Ministry Khagendra Prasad Sharma in a press meet here today said that the local ward offices will provide Rs 25 per kg to those who collect locusts. It has been decided to provide money to the insect collectors as an incentive, he said. He however said that they have urged the locals to scare the insects following traditional methods.

He added that a rapid response team has been formed under the command of Agriculture Development Director Yagya Raj Joshi in the State. Earlier State- 5 government also decided to provide Rs 20 per kg to those who collect locusts on Saturday (June 270. Most of the parts of State 5 and 2 are placed on alert after the swarms of locusts invaded some areas on Saturday and its effect is seen in Sudur Paschim State as well .RSS
