Nepal is marking International Migrants Day by organizing various programs for a week.
Secretary at the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security, Ek Narayan Aryal said the main purpose of the celebration of International Migrants Day is to promote safe, secure and regular foreign labor migration and raise awareness among the stakeholders.
At a news conference on Thursday, Secretary Aryal said Nepal is organizing the events for a week from December 16 with the theme of “Skill, capital and knowledge: Entrepreneurship, employment and national pride.”
On the occasion, Aryal said that the ministry was deepening cooperation with the local governments through the Reintegration Program (Operation and Management) Guidelines, 2079 for the sustainable reintegration of the returned migrant workers. “Foreign employment has made a crucial contribution to making the country’s economy vibrant. However, going abroad for employment is out of compulsion. This should be ended,” he said.
