From the Gautam Buddha International Airport located in Bhairahawa, the Corporation has prepared regular flights to both destinations from the second week of May.

According to NAC Spokesperson Ramesh Paudel, the process has started for direct flights from Bhairahawa to New Delhi and Kuala Lumpur. For that purpose, the necessary process of flight permit has been advanced with both countries. He mentioned that work has been initiated by speeding up manpower management, technical preparation, and marketing.

Spokesman Paudel said that the process has been advanced so that there will be at least one flight per week to both destinations and the number of flights will be increased according to market demand. “We have applied for necessary flight permits for two countries and in-routes, bookings will be opened as soon as the permit is received,” he said.

A special task force has been formed under the leadership of Santosh Pandey, Deputy Director of the Corporation’s Commercial Department, for the flight from Bhairahawa. The corporation is currently flying regularly from Kathmandu to both destinations.

According to the corporation, special packages will be arranged to attract more Buddhist pilgrims visiting Lumbini after the start of the corporation’s flight service connecting Lumbini, the birthplace of the world-famous Gautama Buddha in Nepal.

Gautam Budh International Airport was put into commercial operation from May 16, 2022. Through this airport, it was expected that there would be more tourist attraction from Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and other countries with a majority of Buddhists by expanding the air network.

Kuwait’s Jazeera Air is now flying internationally from that airport. Himalaya Airlines operated a short-term chartered flight last year. Although various international airlines have shown interest in flying to Bhairahawa, the flight has not been able to operate.
