The meeting of the House of Representatives has approved a proposal seeking consideration in the ‘Bill to raise national debt, 2080’.
The proposal of ‘Bill to raise national debt, 2080’ presented by Finance Minister Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat in the HoR meeting was approved by a majority of votes.
Earlier, members of parliament, including Dr Swarnim Wagle, Gokarna Bista, Prem Suwal, Sumana Shrestha, Ashok Kumar Chaudhary and Amrit Lal Rajbamshi took part in the deliberation on the theoretical aspects of the bill.
Responding to the queries raised in the discussion, Finance Minister Dr Mahat said loan has been received within the limit as of now claiming that the government was effortful to reduce debt burden.
The government was seriously working how to utilize the loan rather not to what volume to receive it, Mahat replied.
He further clarified that the government has a policy to receive loan only after doing adequate ground work on how to utilize the multilateral and bilateral loan to which sectors. He said the government has given priority to the loan with subsidized loan below one percent interest rate.
“The loan received from different sources will be invested for infrastructure development (tourism and energy)”, Dr Mahat added.
The HoR shall meet again at 11.00 am on coming Sunday (July 2).
