Nepal’s national electricity grid has reached Hatiya in Bhotkhola Rural Municipality-3, a remote northern area of Sankhuwasabha district, improving access to reliable electricity.
According to the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, residents previously relied on micro-hydropower projects. Following the grid extension, electricity is now being supplied to the rural municipality office and the Hatiya-based hospital through three-phase meters.
The expansion is expected to benefit local residents, government offices, health institutions, mills and cottage industries. Energy Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha thanked Nepal Electricity Authority employees, technicians and local representatives for extending reliable electricity services to remote communities.
Meanwhile, the NEA has initiated the process of extending the national grid to Kimathanka, near the Chinese border, with a target of completing the work within the current fiscal year.
Around 95 percent of households in Sankhuwasabha already receive electricity through the national grid, while the remaining households rely on micro-hydropower and solar energy.
