The National Statistics Office has urged all business establishments across the country to participate in the ongoing Economic Census.
Dr. Bed Prasad Dhakal, Director of the Economic Census Branch under the National Statistics Office, called on institutions involved in both formal and informal economic activities to actively cooperate in the census process.
The census, which began on Baisakh 2 and will continue until Asar 7, aims to present the country’s overall economic activities and provide a foundation for economic policymaking. According to Dr. Dhakal, data is being collected from sectors including commercial agriculture, mining, manufacturing industries, trade and commerce, private enterprises, banks and cooperatives, financial institutions, and other business-related establishments.
So far, around 480,000 registered business institutions have been included in the economic census. Dr. Dhakal stated that by Baisakh 22, approximately 32 percent of the census work had been completed nationwide.
The first Economic Census was conducted in 2018 BS (2075 BS), and the current exercise marks the second such census. The census aims to measure the country’s actual economic condition. For this purpose, 3,906 enumerators and 526 supervisors have been mobilized across the country.
Enumerators are conducting field-level data collection to cover all types of formal and informal industries, businesses, and service sectors.
According to the office, 7,453 business establishments have committed to filling out their information online themselves, and among them, 1,615 have already completed and submitted their details for participation in the census.
To support the program, Provincial Economic Census Coordination Committees have been formed in all provinces under the leadership of the Chief Secretaries, while District Economic Census Coordination Committees have been established under the leadership of Chief District Officers.
Dr. Dhakal added that committees have also been formed at the ward level to make the census more reliable and credible.
