NBI conducts conference on “Banking Today & Tomorrow”

Kathmandu, April 4 : National Banking Institute (NBI) conducted an one- day conference on “Banking Today and Tomorrow” in Butwal on Friday . The event was attended by over 100 senior banking professionals from various Banks and Financial Institutions. The event was inaugurated with an opening speech by Rajendra Bhattarai, Director, State Chief, Nepal Rastra Bank, Siddharthanagar and Sanjib Subba, CEO, National Banking Institute.

The NBI conference was facilitated by eminent local experts from the industry, Deependra Bahadur Chhetri, Former Governor, Nara Bahadur Thapa, Executive Director, Nepal Rastra Bank and CA. Anal Raj Bhattarai, Banking Expert.

The conference highlighted on the most important aspects of operation in the Banking world; Ethics in Banking, SME Loan, Role of Bank in National Economy: Opportunities in Productive Sector and discussion forum on the “Current Issues & Challenges in Banks” from the Provincial Perspective facilitated by the Senior Experts from the Banking Industry.

Mr. Deependra Bahadur Chhetri focused on Ethics in banking emphasizing it as a basis for trust that inextricably connects to the financial world. Regulators and supervisory reforms contribute to strengthening trust by placing the emphasis on robust risk cultures. He further presented the importance of Banking supervisors need to be aware of these issues and contribute to the process.

Mr. Nara Bahadur Thapa highlighted an important role of the banks in the financial system and the economy. He further emphasized that financial services help to make the overall economy more efficient which makes it utmost important to understand the opportunities in the productive sector.

Anal Raj Bhattarai presented on SME Financing and its problems and prospects. He presented on SME Loan being more adaptable to the changing business environment and creating sustainable employment. He further elaborated on the innovative approach and implication for policy and regulations in enhancing SME.

The program also included a panel discussion session with the Province Heads on “Current Issues & Challenges: A Provincials Perspective of various commercial banks namely, Mr. Rajendra Ghimire, Province Head, Sunrise Bank Ltd., Mr. Sushil Nepal, Province Head, Siddhartha Bank Ltd. and Mr. Megh Nath Pandey, Province head, NCC Bank Ltd.
