April 28 : The Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) has called on the government to bring a stimulus package for reviving the tourism sector that has been hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.
An NCC delegation led by its president Rajesh Kaji Shrestha made such a demand in its meeting the Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Yogesh Kumar Bhattarai, on Monday (April 7). According to the delegation, the stimulus package should offer facilities including tax exemptions, loan guarantee, corporate bond in order to to bail out the tourism related organisations like hotels and airlines companies of the present crisis.
During the the meeting, NCC delegation also asked the government to concentrate on bringing more visitors from China in the country soon after the coronavirus pandemic subsidies.
The Nepal Airlines, Himalayan Airlines and Chinese Airlines could well offer competitive packages targeting the Chinese tourists in the upcoming tourism season of October and November, according to the delegation.
NCC also suggested the government to formulate a plan to help boost domestic tourism in the days to come.
