Kathmandu, August 9 : A total of 380 individuals tested positive for coronavirus in last 24 hours across the country, according to the Ministry of Health and Population. The infected cases were confirmed from the PCR tests of 8,515 people from different labs in the country, Spokesperson of the Ministry Dr Jageshwor Gautam said. With this, total number of coronavirus infected people in the country reached 22,972. Ninety-two fresh cases were detected in the Kathmandu Valley today.

. With this, the number of people discharged from the hospital after winning battle against the virus reached 16,353. Likewise, there are 11,038 people in quarantines across the country so far. Spokesperson of the Ministry, Dr Gautam, said that a total of 443,804 people underwent PCR test so far. Two more persons died from Covid-19 in past 24 hour. A 62-year-old man of Pokhara Metropolitan City in Kaski, also suffering from diabetes, and a 20-year-old woman of Birgunj Metropolitan City in Parsa died from coronavirus infection on August 8.

With this, the number of people died from the coronavirus infection reached 75. There are 6,544 active coronavirus cases in the country, Dr Gautam said, adding that State-1 has 511 active coronavirus cases and 3,075 in State-2. Likewise, there are 1,132 active cases in in Bagmati State, 237 in Gandaki State, 446 in State-5, 169 in Karnali State and 974 in Sudurpaschim State. Four districts—Parsa, Rautahat, Mahottari and Kathmandu—each recorded more than 500 active coronavirus cases. National Health Research Council’s Member-Secretary Prof Dr Pradip Gyawali said 72 percent people in a study carried out in 23 public places recently were found not to have used facemasks correctly.

Of the 4,502 respondents, 72.1 percent was found to have used masks and 27.1 did not use it. Among 2,703 respondents, 72.66 percent was found to have used masks in right way and 27.34 used it in wrong way. Of the respondents, 15.8 were found to have used fabric facemasks. The study was carried out in 23 public places including vegetable markets, shopping malls, government and private hospitals, banks, land revenue offices, public vehicle stations and hotels.

To conduct the study about the status of people taking health safety measures to be safe from the infection, the Council on July 23 had formed an experts’ group and mobilised a team of 39 people for data collection. The study report was submitted to the Ministry of Health and Population on Sunday itself, said Dr Gyawali.RSS
