The Ministry of Agriculture, Forest and Environment has announced that Nepal currently has 144,803.25 metric tons of chemical fertilizers in stock.
Chief of the Agricultural Development Division and Joint Secretary Dr. Ramkrishna Shrestha stated that there is no immediate shortage of fertilizers, as the available stock is currently being distributed across the country.
However, he acknowledged delays in the arrival of additional fertilizer supplies due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia. According to him, around 491,000 metric tons of fertilizers are expected to arrive once disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz are resolved.
The ministry also noted that fertilizer prices have increased compared to the previous year because of the continued instability and conflict in the West Asian region.
Joint Secretary Shrestha further urged farmers to use organic fertilizers as much as possible in order to maintain and protect soil health.
