April 26 : Nepal is now no more in the list of high risk zones in terms of the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. The World Health Organization (WHO) removed Nepal from the very list to enlist it as a risk zone on Saturday (April 25).
The WHO made such a move by assessing the efforts made by Nepal in the prevention and containment of the deadly virus.
Joint spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, Dr Samir Kumar Adhikari, said,” Nepal was earlier deemed as a highly vulnerable country due to the emergence of coronavirus in the northern neighbour and its open border with the southern neighbour. But not it is delisted from the high risk zone based on the measures it applied in the prevention, control and treatment of the deadly disease.
Nepal’s decision to implement the national lockdown on March 24 has proved to be a timely measure against the coronavirus as it mitigated the risk of imported cases related to this disease, according to Dr Adhikari.
