Nepal’s LPG bottlers have decided to introduce separate cylinders and pricing for household and industrial or commercial consumers, initially allocating 10 percent of total gas supplies to businesses. Commercial cylinders will be painted blue, while household cylinders will remain red.
Initially, commercial users will receive the existing 14.2 kg cylinders, with plans to introduce 19 kg, 50 kg and 450 kg cylinders based on consumption needs. The government aims to reduce the subsidy burden, as it currently provides Rs 495 in subsidy per household-sized cylinder.
The Nepal Oil Corporation estimates that commercial and industrial users account for 35 percent of total LPG consumption, while the remaining 65 percent is used by households.
